Thirty Years’ War

The Thirty Years’ War was a 17th-century religious conflict fought primarily in central Europe. It remains one of the longest and most brutal wars in human history, with more than 8 million casualties resulting from military battles as well as from the famine and disease caused by the conflict. The war lasted from 1618 to 1648, starting as a battle among the Catholic and Protestant states that formed the Holy Roman Empire. However, as the Thirty Years’ War evolved, it became less about religion and more about which group would ultimately govern Europe. In the end, the conflict changed the geopolitical face of Europe and the role of religion and nation-states in society.

Protestantism

Protestantism, movement that began in northern Europe in the early 16th century as a reaction to medieval Roman Catholic doctrines and practices. Along with Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodoxy, Protestantism became one of three major forces in Christianity. After a series of European religious wars in the 16th and 17th centuries, and especially in the 19th century, it spread throughout the world. Wherever Protestantism gained a foothold, it influenced the social, economic, political, and cultural life of the area.

The Christian doctrine of the Trinity (Latin: Trinitas, lit. ‘triad’, from Latin: trinus “threefold”)

holds that God is one God, but three coeternal consubstantial persons or hypostase—the Father, the Son (Jesus Christ), and the Holy Spirit—as “one God in three Divine persons”. The three persons are distinct, yet are one “substance, essence or nature” (homoousios).

In this context, a “nature” is what one is, whereas a “person” is who one is.

This in itself is conflicting as the bible states that God is not respectful of persons. 

The subset of Christianity that accepts this doctrine is collectively known as trinitarianism, while the subset that doesn’t is referred to as nontrinitarian. Trinitarianism contrasts with positions such as Binitarianism (one deity in two persons) and Monarchianism (no plurality of persons within God), of which Modalistic Monarchianism (one deity revealed in three modes) and Unitarianism (one deity in one person) are subsets.

While the developed doctrine of the Trinity is not explicit in the books that constitute the New Testament, the New Testament possesses a “triadic” understanding of Go and contains a number of Trinitarian formulas.

Lateran Pacts of 1929

The Lateran Pacts of 1929 contained three sections葉he Treaty of Conciliation (27 articles) which established Vatican City as an independent state, restoring the civil sovereignty of the Pope as a monarch, the Financial Convention annexed to the treaty (3 articles) which compensated the Holy See for loss of the papal states, and the Concordat (45 articles), which dealt with the Roman Catholic Church’s ecclesiastical relations with the Italian State.

An Agreement Between the Italian Republic and the Holy See amended the Lateran Pacts in 1985.
